Seem to be having a problem, just made a video - transfer the video of the camcorders HDD onto the PC.

I try to import the video and I get the following error.. (See screenshot).

I want to try and import the video so that the amount of 'MB' of the video will go down so I can upload it to YouTube.

Any ideas what the error means? also is there any other free programme out there what will let me do this?

does it do that with any other videos too? or just the one video you are trying to import from the camcorder? As for other programs, there is Super Video Converter

It only does the error with this video cam corder, my other one was fine.

Don't want to pay for anything yet until I know it works.

    What camcorder is it?

SONY? You might have a lot of problems if it is.

Try changing the file ext. to .MPEG before bringing it to Movie Maker.

    Found the answer:

that's a clue that you are trying to import and use MPEG2 files without a codec that works with MM2. See the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of my site.

Ill get you a link to fix it in a second.

Are you using movie maker 1 or 2?

    http://www.papajohn.org/
    Go:

Import Movie Source Files -> Video > MPEG

Read about conversions. That should help

Think you can give me a little more info?

What the file extension to your movie file?

What version of Windows Movie Maker are you using (There's a 1 and 2)?

Are you just compressing (decreasing the size) of your video or are you adding post-shot effects?

I can't import any videos from this video camcorder (haven't tried my old one), I get errors.

I believe this is a codec issue, as some stated in another forum, just asking now for a link to get a good coded download what will fix this problem.

You're recording in a mpg 2 format. The codec for that format costs money to have.

That's why I'm asking if you just want to compress the file. You can go download a program that compresses the file for you with a divx/other codec.
