I look at the cans, and 1 can has like 390 calories in it. Should I avoid this, and just stick with apples/oranges/bananas/etc ?

well i believe they typically have more sugar that just fruit (in the syrup and all) but if you account for the calories i dont see why it would be that big of a deal :dunno:

you really should try your best to avoid fruit altogether on a cut, especially canned fruit as (most) they consist of high fructose syrups

lets hear how fruits are a better alternative to veggies

+all the vitamins and minerals of a fruit
    +great antioxidants
    +virtually no calories
    +somewhat satiating

no offense, but you sound very similar to pt right now by basing your experiences off internet resources. I have a lot more respect to you than pt, but you're lacking personal experience. Sure you might have taken a couple people to some lower levels, but did you actually recommend fruit to them? I'd like to hear your diet suggestions you offer to these people.

you asked how fruits were a better alternative, chocolate has nothing to do with it, and chcocolate dipped fruit >chocolate dipped vegetables

I stick to fresh fruit. I've been cutting for a while now and I eat fruit all the damn time. I could care less about sugars from fruit since I'd be stuffing my face with junk food if I didn't eat fruit instead. I definately avoid canned fruit though due to the syrup, its way too sweet for me.
