Now, I'm well aware that handguns for everyday carry are a big nono up here, but I've always been fascinated by handguns and sub-machine guns. I've been thinking lately about picking up a handgun, legally of course, to take to the local range to shoot targets with, possibly even get competative assuming I'm any good :x:. Anyone in WMD have any Canadian, particularly Ontario, experience with this process? Is it a pain in the ass? Is the paperwork and background checks all worth it just to shoot targets? Keep in mind that I've shot a .22 rifle on occasion, but never hunted or shot anything bigger.

Any other input is welcomed. :wavey:

Thanks for the info. I'll prolly start looking into this more in the summer. Are there typically any fees when joining a gun club? I'm very new to this whole process so please excuse my ignorance :x:

hey, sorry to bump an old thread but I'd rather do this than start a new one and get flamed haha.

McGarnigle, you mentioned joining a gun club. I've never used a firearm, but I'm very interested in owning one for the enjoyment of going to the range, becoming a good shot, etc. I'm expecting to pay all the fees involved in acquiring a firearm as well as any fees needed to use the range, but what is the purposes or advantages of joining a gun club? I wouldn't need to do this if I wanted to just head to the range and do some target practice, right? thanks in advance :bigthumb:

Since it's already been zombie-resurrected, I don't feel bad replying to the coins thing--I didn't mind the $1 and $2 coins in Canada, last time I visited.
    I actually liked the idea.....:iorun:

A gun club is the only place you can shoot restricted firearms, legally. Range = gun club, and you have to be a club member to get an ATT. However, if all you do is skeet or long rifle shooting, some clubs don't require membership to shoot, just a day-pass.
