Or is it crazy expensive. I think I might benefit from a session or two but you all know I'm a frugal bastard

I could talk to my mom cuz she has a psych background and she and I have a great relationship, but I'm not sure I wanna chat up my mom about this stuff. I think an anonymous person would be better.

Anyone ever been to a hypnotist? I want to do some hypnotherapy and find out why when I was a kid I was outgoing and awesome, and now at 26 I'm an introvert with some social anxiety disorder (I think). I want to find out what happened. I have some ideas, but I'm biased because it deals with myself.

A friend of mine is volunteering at a help line while getting her PhD in Psych. She's just a phone counselor now, but you can call in and talk about ANYTHING. I'm pretty sure people from everywhere can call, but she usually gets locals. So, maybe look for something similar in your area?

Most health insurances have some mental aspect to it as well. Try calling the # on your insurance card.

My sister left her therapy reciept at my house...it said like $100 for a 45 minute session. I'm sure it might be cheaper if you agree to pay cash though.

at your mom's house. be back later.
Alot of places have a sliding fee scale that is dependent on your income. Just call and ask. :)

Unlike free advice websites like this you will have to pay feasible amounts of money for a professional medical expert. Its hard to give exact estimates because this differs everywhere.

Don't know what to tell you about finding it for free. It would be great tho if there was a free service! The lines to that would be crazy. You would have like a hour wait, and go insane while sitting on the phone.

do you have insurance at all? most health insurance covers therapy visits. i get 20 visits a year & i pay a $15 copay each time i go. my therapist usually gets 80-100/hr i believe but she lets me pay $40/session when i run out for the year.

If you work full time and get benefits, check on something about EAP benefits (I think that's what it is called). I think you can get 3 visits where the insurance covers most of the cost.

Not 100% sure, but it's something to check out.

For any of you with experience, are those highschool counsellors or university counsellors ever any good at actually counselling? :hs:

Why be so frugal when you have the money and could possibly benefit your well-being?

You could call some universities near you and ask about any study they're doing. When you're the subject of a study it's free.
You could also go there and see one psychologist who's studying. They're not experienced but there's a LOT of supervision (that means professors and university-level psychologists deciding what to do) while in private counseling there isn't always supervision.
