Can you put DDR2

    ...in any DDR supporting motherboard, as long as it's the same speed. For example if a motherboard supports DDR400 can you put DDR2 400 in it?

    oh, alright then...is there an advantage of DDR2 over DDR?

    performance wise atleast

    depends on the platform. For an AMD, no... Which is why you don't see it. For a P4, yes. DDR2 has an increased memory bandwidth, but at the sacrifice of latency. AMD relies on a quick latency for performance... Intel, in contrast, benefits more from teh bandwidth.
