What his vague reference to his solution meant was you could set permissions on a folders so other users will not be able to access that folder. So, you would have to create a user, set the directory to deny access to that user, log out, then login to that user and let other people use that computer while they're on that account. When you want to see the directory, log out and go back to the administrator account.

You could probably find third party software that will do this so you will not have to fuss with users and permissions. Try google.

There are also 3rd party programs that can do what you want. I used to have a program called PC Security that could put a password on folders.

just dont call it "my porn" and leave it on the desktop

if the other people that use the computer dont know much about it, just stash the folder somewhere that theyre unlikely to stumble across.

you can set the folder as hidden, then turn on and off "show hidden files and folders"

using ntfs permissions would be your best bet.

if you need something more than that, google

You can zip it and add a password to the .zip. It's a pain in the ass though, it works for a couple files, but since you have to enter your password to access every file every time, it's gonna be a pain to look at all that porn in a timely fashion :)

If the system has multiple people using it, they should each have seperate user accounts. Seperate account profiles = problem solved. (there should also not be more than one admin)

    only if using ntfs

and there shouldbe more than one admin. the one the (main) user logs in as, the default "Administrator" renamed to something less uh, default, and a user in the group "users" named "Administrator" and disabled (as a red herring)

NTFS/XP/2K should be a given if he has any interests in Windows security. And technically, not even the regular user should be admin. I agree with renaming Administrator though. However, under your philosophy, you might as well just disable the account.

im not sure he's too worried about security, just hiding the porn, even if it is metaphorically speaking

on nix systems, you dont want to be in as root, but on windows system, the difference between normal user and admin is just too much of a pain in the ass to deal with

as for disabling the Administrator account, i have on rare occasion needed to log in under that account. i could just reenable it prior, and leave it disabled, but i feel secure enough leaving on and renamed

What? You don't want people finding your porn?!

    Simply put it in D:\Windows\SYSTEM32\~3dctemp\ntemp\.

No one will know where your porn is! Do it my style!

The problem with just hidding the folder somewhere on the drive is that if someone does a *.jpg search it will still find all of the pics on the drive. The best thing would be to have different users and then set the permissions to only allow yourself in to that folder.
