Alright, this is a possibly stupid question, but here it is:

Is it alright to "cheat" a little on your diet if you make corresponding adjustments to your other meals for the day?
Example: I eat healthy items for most of the day. Come lunchtime, I slip and I eat something unhealthy (two coney dogs). I cut down on my meals for the rest of the day so that I come in at or under my goal calorie/carbs/fat/etc for the day.

Am I screwing my diet over by doing that? Or is it OK to eat less healthy things (within reason) if you just account for them in your planning for the day?

It's not cheating if you meet your goals.

it really depends on how dedicated you are... obviously if you cheat you are not going to get as good of results as if you are strict as hell.

i.e. I saw some website which asked jesse marunde what his favorite cheat meal was. His response was sugar on his oatmeal instead of eating it plain. :mamoru:

i can't cheat cause i'm too fat and i need to keep the diet steady, i guess if someone is close to their target some cheat days sure wouldn't matter, but imo it would be a case by case thing and depends on how big of a cheat day etc etc

QFT, someone posted the cheat day thread from bb.com and it was fucking rediculous. I'm assuming they had to puke to fit all that ice cream and twinkies down.

If you follow a diet strictly for 95% of the time, then you followed the diet...

They don't cheat, they binge. Cheating is just eating (usually) foor with high caloric density and low nutrient density, in my book. If it's working for someone, good for him. A planned cheat meal can help sticking to the general plan too.

Planning is KEY! If I slip in a cheat meal it is usually WAY out of line and more on par with my bike racing carb loading meals!:noes:

I think it is totally ok to cheat if you stay consistent with the diet plan. I tell myself I want to cheat a lot of the time. Then I think about how well I am doing and wish to continue to improve on my physique so it turns me away from my 'evil side'.

What's even harder is working with other people who twice your size that wish to eat out for lunch each day. They laugh everytime we go out to lunch together because I eat a house salad with light dressing and I get full. Then I go out and buy zebra cakes and oatmeal pies for them and tell I would love to see them devulge on them... on my expense. :)
