I was told that 125cc all the way up to about 750cc are treated the same as far as the insurance rates go.

Is this your experience as well?

    what Vermincelli said...

I'v heard some companies go by number of cylinders, and the rest go by displacement, but they all look at the style of bike, and if its a sport bike plan on paying out some money for insurance.

I have an SV1000s and they actually classify it as a standard. So insurance aint bad at all.

FWIW, with Progressive Insurance I moved from a 600cc to 750cc and my premium went up about $3 per month.
