I've always wondered if someone w/ HIV/AIDS could join the military, given they are in good health and maintain their drug regime. It seems like they could but maybe restricted to a desk job and not "on the battlefield". Anyone know?

They shouldn't have anyone in the military with HIV. In combat you never know who's gonna get hit and when I'm applying first aid I don't wanna worry about AIDS.

There are many things about how the military treats it's people that would be illegal in the civilian sector. One of the first things they tell you when you get to basic is that the bill of rights no longer applies to you.

We don't have to agree with the rules. We just have to obey/enforce them.

edit: and by we, I mean anyone in the military.

Tell that to the supply admins, the postal clerks, and others with desk jobs that are pulling convoy security and getting hit by IED's in Iraq.

If someone has HIV/AIDS, they don't belong on the military.

"can not join, but can stay in and re-enlist,make rank, etc.. which is F-u-c-ked up as well."

The only reason someone would end up staying is if they were able to have a bulletproof record / desktop, etc

To my knowledge when someone develops HIV, they are sent through the MEB / PEB dealio. And they probably had someone high up recommend that they stay in.

The people who stay in, REALLY want to stay in, and probably have a record of gold and I would almost say the deserve it. To have a decision turned over that the PEB handed down is pretty substantial and only the cream of the crop military do that.

Look at the examples of the guy at Campbell who lost his eye, thats almost always medical sep, or the Marine who lost his arm, etc., These are just EXTREME examples and the people work their asses off to stay in through one way or the other.

I dont give a RAT's ASS if it's discrimination. I dont care if you have a "desk job". One of the JOBs of a military person is to be DEPLOYABLE,be Physically fit, COMBAT ready and not a physical DANGER to anyone !!! If you have HIV/AIDS, you can not be any of those things. If your Temporary unfit, you have a certain amount of time to get in shape.
Now, i know it doesn't always work that way.. thats a part of the problem.
As far as the GAY thing goes, I dont care. I wont share my sexual romp stories about my wife, dont share your same sex stories. Just do your fricken job and protect me and mine, and I will do the same.
    Plain and simple..

...and ditto what darnit said. :coolugh:

Not everyone in this forum is in the Air Force. Not all admin types in other services spend all of their time behind a desk.

wear some latex gloves and stop being a pussy. I never said i wanted anyone to catch it. Yes you'd be a risk but your risk of dying out there is alot higher than catching aids from someone. As long as you use your head then you'll be fine.

Or mabye if some faggot with AIDS isn't allowed to enlist in the first place, NOBODY would ever have to worry about it. You're telling people without AIDS to wear latex gloves.... how about you tell your "partner" to wear a fucking latex condom next time you decide to take it up the ass.

Yeah, someone is a pussy because they don't want to catch AIDS :jerkit:. If you don't like the fact that gays and those with AIDS aren't allowed in the military, then feel free to write your congressman.

Everybody step the fuck back and take a fucking breather. :squint:

You can contract HIV/AIDS after you enlist, so the MEPS screening isn't going to take care of it all. I would be willing to bet that the chances of any of you seeing a member of the military that has AIDS - much less coming into contact with their bodily fluids - is so close to nil that it borders on the ridiculous.

I'm just posing a wild assed guess here, but I bet you wouldn't be able to deploy if your medical was flagged for AIDS/HIV.
