Can someone recommend a good External HD?

    I'm assuming most if not all can connect to a TV and come with a remote?

    so..

    is there any sort of storage device that i can store downloaded movies on from my computer and be able to play them on my tv?

    Your idea isn't half bad.

    Purchase an Xbox 360 and then install Media Center (or some other package) on your PC and you can stream stuff from your PC over the network to the TV.

    It is close to what you want.

    or do it for 1/3 of the price and get an old xbox and install xbmc

    I made the mistake of going cheap for a business solution - storing about 5GB of wav files weekly. Almost every time I do the transfer, the WD book needs to be restarted. I have had the best luck with enclosures like Vantac with a decent samsung drive attached.

    I have a WD My Book and I love it. I have had it for over a year with no problems, use it all the time.
