This is a stupid question but I've never dealt with boxing before

Do you just go in whenever and randomly train with whoever is there? Or are you supposed to take classes?

The gym I am looking at is offering a membership for 40 a month, which seems in line with what I've heard for boxing. But there are also group classes that is 155 for 6 lessons, so if i wanted to go say 2x a week, that would be crazy expensive.

usually the 40 fee is to just to have access to the gym and do whatever u want..

the other price should be hiring a trainer for 1 on 1 session...

I paid like $10 once every 2-3 months. We had a routine of X rounds of skipping rope, shadow boxing, heavybag, and excercises everyone would do on their own, and then a couple times a week the coach would pull you aside and show you something new or have you hit the mits or it would be sparring day and whoever showed up would fight whoever else was there.

Mostly it was and indiviual activity involving just doing the same routine over and over and over. Every once in a while the coach would take notice of you and show you something new or give you some pointers on how to improve. There were no classes being led by an instructor starting at a set time and ending in another like you usually see in jiu jitsu.

The other price is for group classes. 1 on 1 is 55 an hour.

    costs me $30cdn a month

usually oldschool boxing gyms are pretty cheap especially for kids, since part of the sport is bringing in rough kids from the street and giving them some discipline and hopefully give them some positive changes in their lives.

at my gym it's more class oriented, skip together, warmup together, then we do about 3 rounds of shadowbox, then learn a couple techniques on the bag, the coaches will walk around helping the newbies, then sometimes do conditioning drills on the bag, or mitts witha partner or coach.

other times the coach will ask you if you want to spar, and do about 3 rounds depending how good you are.

at my gym everyday is different, one day may be conditioning, cardio and the next day purely technique. makes things alot better

Damn thats dirt cheap, but you are not in the Tdot are you?

I pay $60 a month for unlimited training at Ultimate Martial Arts, I do 3 classes a week, and lift weights twice a week in the morning.

I also train JKD which is $80 a month, just twice a week for 2 hours.

My last boxing gym charged me $20 bucks a month to use the facility. The trainer is a totally different rate which varies depending on the coach. I paid 80 bucks for 2 times a week every month.

Pretty expensive back then (6 years ago).
