I bought some jeans that seemed ok at the store, but are way too long. They were on sale so I can't return them...Can a tailor do this? What would be a good price for this?

I paid 15 on a pair of mine, they even stitched the original bottom back on to show the original wear

Really? I always thought that if jeans were too long there was nothing you could do.

If you're short it can be untailorable depending on the jeans. Some brands have a minimum length that's very long, and the wash and cut is specifically designed for guys of a fairly tall minimum height. So even if you shorten the hem it's still not gonna look/fit right as where the knees are supposedly to be is all the way down the middle of your calf.

So how would I know which jeans are designed for taller guys? Does anyone know of specific brands that definitely work with short frames?

unless you're 4 feet tall, don't worry, just buy them in your size....

The way I decide it is when the tapered area around the knees come down to the middle of my shin, then I know that hemming is not going to help it because the thigh is designed too long for me. It's more obvious on some jeans than others. You just have to try many pairs on before you make your decision.

Another problem with long thigh is that the pockets may come down far. For a tall guy looks just right, but if you are short it looks like your butt is way lower than where it really is.

Just try on lots of different jeans and use judgment. Imagine what it'd look like after tailoring.

Bloomies in Bal Harbor gives you two options - they'll hem them for free if you buy it from them, or they'll charge you twenty bucks to use the original hem when they shorten them.

If you're already spending nearly 200 bucks on jeans, go the extra mile and fork over the jackson so it's done right.
