can i wear a tie with an oxford?

    i have an interview and all i have is an oxford and black pants. would a tie be ok? should i just get a white shirt and black tie?

    google images 'oxford shirt'....... is that a normal shirt but with a button-down collar?


    tie - yes - because thats the whole point of the button down collar :uh:

    oxfords are generally more casual button downs that aren't meant to be worn under a jacket or suit.

    but for the OP, it all depends on what the shirt looks like. pic?

    I was thinking of it from the perspective of where I live -- shirt and tie with no jacket / suit is basically an everyday workwear for 80% of white collar guys in my area / climate

    But oxford + jacket would be kinda :hsugh:

    oxford refers to the type of material that the shirt is made of. generally speaking, its a more casual shirt so no you wouldn't want to wear a tie. ZBut if thats all you have, you might as well go for it. but i would not recommend going in a white shirt with black tie.

    also...for an interview you want to wear something professional yet subtle. Go with a plain blue or white shirt with a yellow or red tie. avoid intense stripes, everything should be low key. good luck
