I have a pc that is acting up. The machine will shut off by itself after several minutes and then u just smell something burning. I will replace the PS but my question is... can I use any power supply that has the same type of specs? I have several other PCs that have parts in them and what not so I may just replace the PS from another source rather than having to by one.

    Any advice appreciated.

Do you know how many watts that power supply is? Is it ATX? Check if you have any psu's that match that ones specs. What do you use your pc for?

How will I know if it is ATX compatible or if it is ATX? The pc is used for checking email and porn (by my uncle) only. :)

if you can't tell, don't touch it

take it to a local pc shop and tell them to fix it

Yea. If you have a Fry's Electronics around, they have an excellent service center.

Im trying to stay away from visiting any type of tech service center. I have the equipment, but I wanted to get some feedback as to wether or not I can use one from any of the PCs that I have laying around.
