My brother has an HP tablet PC with Windows Vista Home Premium on it, and I'm thinking of getting him a Windows 7 Pro upgrade for Christmas, but I'm half-expecting Microsoft to pull some shit where I'd have to upgrade to W7 Home and then upgrade again to W7 Pro. Does anyone know if it can be done in a straight shot? Are there any features in W7 Home that aren't available in W7 Pro?

you should always do a clean install, anyway. take the time to separate his files to a second partition then format and do a custom install to win7

it's worth the extra time spent. 7 is way better than Vista! Now I just have to get a processor that supports the XP mode in win 7 and I will be set with all my old programs :)

Pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't XP mode only in Win7 Ultimate?

Yes, that's why I want to put 7 Pro on there. I really, really don't want to have to fuck around with tablet PC drivers, though. It's such a pain in the ass to chase down drivers for any laptop, tablets doubly so.

Windows 7 itself comes loaded with drivers. I did a fresh install on my laptop and didn't need to go and find a single driver for anything including a Sony photo printer I have that didn't even work in Vista.

    Hmm. That's good to know.

Well, as it happens it looks like I'll be getting him Photoshop CS4 Extended instead, and I'm sure as hell not buying him two pieces of butt-ass expensive software in a single shot. I love him, but not that much. He can get W7 after Unfuck Pack 1 comes out.
