A&P Can I see your best shots w/a kit lens?

I'm starting to understand why these suck so much now. I went out today to snap some shots and when I got back my shots don't seem to be as crisp & clean as I had expected.

Couple shots that look good shrunk down for web, but the cat one isn't sharp at all. The bench came out good, but too much noise (forgot the ISO was set high) and the waterfall was "meh" because parts of the grass got blown out.

Why are you blaming the kit lens for something you had full control over?

    :dunno:

Because the images don't seem to be coming out as sharp as they could be. Even on full auto they seem to lack a crispness about them.

I always hear the kit lenses are crap, and everyone talks about the quality of the glass in the upgraded ones getting sharper images. The images aren't bad by any means, just not as defined as I anticipated.

So you think that FULL AUTO will give you better sharpness!?!

I'll have to double check the viewfinder adjuster. I remember playing with it because I wear glasses and I may have it set so it looks clear to me, but not for the camera.

if you're using autofocus, the viewfinder adjuster doesn't matter.

Your camera should have a focus light on it, so you can get a fair idea of when something is in focus, even when focusing manually.

Well I've heard (not a Canon owner, so I can't verify) that Canon kit lenses are extra shitty compared to Nikon kit lenses.

Anyone else care to back that up?

My kit lens was sharp :dunno: why are you shooting on full auto? Looks like you were shooting some of those during peak daylight hours maybe you should invest in a filter. We cant see the exif data for those that might've helped :hs:

theres several things you can do. Shoot at f/8 or so and make sure the shutter is high enough you aren't getting camera shake. If your camera isn't sharpening photos on it's own (sharpness should be at 0 on the camera IMO), you have to sharpen a bit in post processing.

and you can do some amazing things with a point and shoot, I didn't say that that you couldn't take good pictures with it

technically speaking the kit lens is a flaming pile of dog poo

I'm going to go back to measurbating now thank you :o

The 18-70 is a solid lens, though it's kinda slow. Sharp as you'd need.

Aight. It must be me then.

That black-tar heroin gives me the shakes so I'll cut back when going on a shoot.

Too lazy to find what I would consider my "Best" with the kit, but these were kit lens shots.
