I'd like to build up my legs a bit because they are small, however my knees have always been pretty bad and pop and hurt a little when I do squats. I get this even when I sit a certain way on the floor as well. Anyway I would rather run because my knees don't hurt doing that. Will running build up your upper legs and calves or am I shit out of luck?

Or if you are running while playing soccer.....that is equivalent to squatting around 500lbs.

I think running hurts my legs more than squatting sometimes.

I have sucked it up, but I am more afraid of permanent damage than how my legs look for superficial reasons.

Running is probably worse for your knees because of the constant pounding.

And no, it won't make your legs bigger.

    this thread confuses me.

srsly though, running a couple of times a week isn't exactly the best for your knees either. Get your form straight when you squat. just go down to parallel if you have weak girlie knees
