Even if you could run it without a heat sink, why would you want to? Just wait till Monday. No use risking ruining your CPU because you don't wanna wait for the heat sink.

i turned on a motherboard once with a chip and no heatsink for literally 1 second. i touched it afterwards i couldnt' believe how hot it got. it would have burned me if i had left my finger on there for more than 1/10 of a second

Some newer motherboards have a sensor so if the heatsink isn't latched in, the computer won't boot...you can sit it ontop of the cpu and it won't post, not until you latch it in and plug it in.

Don't give the guy shit because he doesn't know, we all gotta start somewhere.

for those of you telling him to just run with out it, you obviously shouldnt be saying anything, cuz you dont know what you are talking about. Well, unless u r being an ass and want to fry his cpu, but that is just wrong. Besides, it is a 64bit you would have to be nuts to naked run.

some bios won't let you start the computer unless there is a heatsink/fan plugged into the board..
