There is a program that allows the computer to stay on when the lid is closed but the battery would run out pretty quickly so I don't think it'd be any good.

Someone will know the name of it, I can't remember it.

I can tell you this. DO NOT RUN YOUR POWERBOOK WITH THE LID CLOSED. The vent in front of the LCD screen will pump the heat right between the LCD screen and the body and trap it there. Not only will it cause the Powerbook to heat up, it will eventually discolor the screen and cause backlighting issues. I've seen it happen, too. This is why that program (it's called NoSleep, btw, and I think there's another one as well) has a huge disclaimer on the website. Not worth it. Or maybe it is to you, but you're gambling with your hardware.

not to mention the fact that you're jostling your hard drive around while it's spinning... instant death if you smack it enough times
