Like a 266, with not much ram at all? I have 2 laptops now serving no purpose, want to do something with em. The 266 is just slow, but it works. The 366 I also have is ok, but the CD-ROM is broken, so I've gotta figure out a way to install Linux on that.

chances are it will have issues with PCMCIA cards and usb, so youll want to disable those when installing. it should run fine on there though

I agree with BaZ. Once you get it going though, it should be really nice. I wouldn't try and run X on the 266 though. You'll probably have some serious speed issues. I have a 180 MHz box and X was just shit on it.

You could always do a network install. :dunno:

I'm actually setting up my box at my new job right now. I'll dual boot with XP and RH9. Maybe I'll like RH9 enough to stick with it as my main OS.

What other freeware variation of Linux should I run on the 266 laptop? I already have the Mandrake 8.2 CD's for the 366. I just need PC cards for both.

I personally like RH. Of course people like Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, SuSE, etc too. It's all a matter of taste I guess.

Well, what about a Linux newb with no previous experience? I'll mainly only use either computer for browsing the web. :dunno:
