    As of now it only pulls from one category using the following code:

    Code:
                <div class="aheadline">

                    <h3>More Featured Posts</h3>

                </div>

                <div style="clear:both;"></div>

                    <!--This is where the thumbnails are found for the featured page - note the custom field name for this image is "thumbnail".-->
                    <!--Replace cat=1 with the Category ID you want to display in this section.-->

                    <?php $recent = new WP_Query("cat=3&showposts=5"); while($recent->have_posts()) : $recent->the_post();?>
                    <?php if( get_post_meta($post->ID, "thumbnail", true) ): ?>
                        <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><img style="float:left;margin:0px 10px 0px 0px;" src="<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, "thumbnail", true); ?>" alt="<?php the_title(); ?>" /></a>
                    <?php else: ?>
                           <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><img style="float:left;margin:0px 10px 0px 0px;"  src="<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/images/thumbnail.png" alt="<?php the_title(); ?>" /></a>
                    <?php endif; ?>
                    <h1><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h1>
                    <?php the_content_limit(400, "[Read more]"); ?>

                    <div style="border-bottom:1px dotted #BBBBBB; margin-bottom:10px; padding:0px 0px 10px 0px; clear:both;"></div>

                    <?php endwhile; ?>

            </div>
    How would I modify that so it pulls all new posts, instead of only on category, while keeping the thumbnails feature?

    I know I could add a separate category for all posts, but that would mean duplicate content.

    i'm not 100% on this but try removing the cat=3& from this part

    Code:
    $recent = new WP_Query("cat=3&showposts=5");
