Basic things I know I want:

Pentium 4 processor, looking at a 2.4, would go higher if the price was right.
I want a good video card, I'm not a huge gamer I just want to be able to play first person shooters with my friends on occasion. I was looking at the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro.
Atleast 200 gig hard drive, Western Digital or Maxtor?
    DVD-Rom, and CD-RW drive.

Obviously there is the other random things that go along with building a computer, but is it possible for me to build that kind of system for that price?

    P4 2.4Ghz w/ decent motherboard ($230)
    Radeon 9500 Pro (Under $200)
    (2) 120gig HD's ($200)
    DVD-Rom/CD-RW combo drive ($70)

That's ~$700, now you need RAM, Case, Floppy drive, and other accessories.

I built a near-bleeding edge machine last summer with 19" CRT monitor, etc. for 1500 last summer, so yes it's possible.
