So about a week ago I had this large black man break into my apartment looking for drugs or what not. I had been wanting to get a handgun for a while, and this incident finally spurred me to get one. I'm still in college, so I couldn't spend a lot...

    Ruger P95

Decent gun. Heavy, but fairly reliable. But what does his being black have to do with anything?

Be sure to load it with hollow points from a big name manufactuer like winchester, remington, federal, or speer and get in plenty of range time to practice, and hopefully some training if you can afford it. Do you have a carry permit yet? If not, start the process to get one.

I bought winchester, but the guy at the store said it didn't really matter which company I got, as long I stayed away from blazer or something.

Went to the range for the first time a couple days ago... so fucking fun. I suspect I'll have to make a few more trips to really get acquainted with the gun.

I'm still debating getting a permit. It does seem to be rather large for a 9mm... some of these guys comments are making me think I should sell it and get a glock.

Where do you start with that. I will attempt.

    - Lighter and easier to CCW.
    - Trigger is light years better, has a shorter trigger travel and reset and is much more crisp.
    - easier to field strip and maintain, give me a rusty nail and I can detail strip it in about 30 seconds.
    - much more resiliant to abuse. There's been famous "abuse tests" done on the glock pistol. "google"
    - as reliable as they come stock. Will feed just about anything, any time anywhere.
    - more readibly available accessories. Mags for $10, sights for 60-80$
    - much bigger holster market for it.
    - More Glock smiths around.
    - Much more versatile weapon. You can guy slides and tops for the gun for around 2-300 dollars and shoot a whole new caliber.
    - much better balanced gun.
    - Much better design to CCW. Less parts to snag, the gun is fairly low profile. drawing from concelment, it will not snag on anything.
    - 20 + years employing the same design, and over 1 Million made and sold says that a lot of other people agree.

Don't just take my, and most everyones word for it. Go out and rent a glock and shoot it next to your Ruger.

Gun crew is gun crew. I don't want to poop on your parade, but if you ask, I'll have to be honest you could have done a little better. None the less, what ever it is, learn it, shoot it and be proficient with it. As long as it works for you.

As far as joining Gun Crew, we'll discuss this at our next monthly board meeting and take a vote on it.

    P.S. Bribes are perfectly acceptable.

Nah, you did alright for a first gun, at least you didn't buy a Hi-point. Spend some range time with it and get used to it. Later one when you get some extra cash get a Glock if you really decide you want one.

As long as they're hollow points from a major brand its going to be hard to go wrong. Cheap fmj rounds like blazer are fine for practice but not for self defense.

If you aren't going to carry and are just keeping this at home I would have gotten a shotgun but....you have this. If your budget is tight I'd take a good training class and learn how to use it before taking a big loss just to get a glock and then not having any cash left to shoot it.

    I love my P95.

If you want to be in gun crew you have to hate everyone's purchase though :mamoru:

people hate on rugers, but I have never had any problems with the ones that I have shot. They might be big, ugly and heavy, but for a HD gun? they are fine.
