I didn't really know where else to post this so here I am :dunno:

Apparently its supposed help you lose weight faster from what I have read. but that is not the case for me... I was on birth control pills to balance my estrogen and testosterone levels for about a year and a half. My weight remained the same during that time, maybe it fluctuated a few pounds here and there, but it was normal. After I got off them for a month or so I started gaining pounds upon pounds in a matter of days, and losing it was not easy either. I'm taking a wild guess and assuming its just the crazy hormone changes causing my body to react retarded.

Just curious if anyone might have any ideas as to why this is going on so I can do a little more research. I'm going to see a doctor this Sunday about it.

there is a difference in weight gain and fat gain, higher test would probably lead to more lean body mass. I dought you workout but still you're probably going to freak out and think you're going to wake up a female body builder tomorrow :noes:

Go get a hormone screen from the doctor, if it's low you may be able to talk the doctor into prescribing some for you. :naughty:

Also, paging macro about estrogen suppression!!!!

Mike had is prescribed to him and he didn't really have low levels. :o

It's prescribed by doctors for low testosterone, but some doctors are stingy about it and other's aren't.

well I'm gaining fat not muscle, and losing the fat is really hard for me :wtc: I wouldn't mind being bulked with muscle. :eek3: the thing with increased testosterone is that it causes increased hair growth (do no want) and oily skin and acne.

low testosterone in women is just as bad as it is in men.

the reason that women get "horny" when they drink is because alcohol increases adrenal testosterone production in women.

men unfortunately just get increased aromatase production and thus estrogen levels.

you really need to be more specific about what pills you were taking.

going off the pill can certainly cause weight gain in women that have high normal estrogen levels (taking the pill suppresses natural production and fluctuation).

flip side of that, women with lower levels of natural estrogen will tend to gain weight when they go on the pill. Though it varies and impacts on progesterone levels are just as important as well as responses to the progestins used (which vary considerably).

hormones also have a significant impact on fat storage and fat pattern.

where did this fat that you gained end up primarily, that can give you a good idea as to what hormones are at play (out of "whack", so to speak).

hormone panels in women are not quite as revealing in men, because fluctuations and cycle impacts can cause massive variances. Variances that may or may not be present at time of testing.

btw- to answer the title question. YES, but only in the presence of calorie excess and typically higher testosterone levels in women makes them leaner and more muscular, though it can exacerbate underlying insulin sensitivity issues which can with the cal excess cause significant weight gain particularly in the belly.
