I recently decided to go to Army OCS after I'm done with college. Being that it's my junior year, I still have some time left and would like to do everything I can to be better prepared. I'm relatively uneducated when it comes to firearms. I've been to ranges before and always had a blast, but I figured maybe it would be a good idea to invest in a rifle of my own and really work on my marskmanship. I'm unclear as to what the laws are in my state for owning assault rifles, but I was wondering if someone could recommend me something to get me better familiarzed with assembly, cleaning, maintenence, marksmanship, etc. Thanks.

They'll teach you everything you need to know there, more then likely you'll just pick up bad habits you'll have to unlearn. That said Boston FTL I dont think you can get an AR there.

I realize what BCT is for, but whats the harm in extra preparation if it's mostly to have fun. Just like I'm going to make damn sure I'm going to get a 300 on the PFT I want to make sure I have some knowledge in this area as well. I planned on taking a safety course anyway. Maybe that will answer some questions :dunno:

Also I'm actually a New York resident. Maybe thats worse though.

  6. by the way, congrats and thanks for making the choice to serve :wavey:

like squid said, they're probably going to teach you in a different approach. i'd rather learn from scratch than unlearn old habits and learn again in a different method.

It's better unless your in one of the 5 boros then your fucked, otherwise although there is a state AWB you can still own assualt weapons just no flash hiders, bayonet lugs or folding stocks unless its a preban gun.
