As my assortment of tools seem to increase as i've hit the 1+ month mark at my first real IT job i've gotten sick of swapping my work related items with school items in my one messenger bag.

i haven't yet decided if i want to get something that is similar to a tool box or more of a bag style..

    main things i carry are:
    network related tools...crimper/cable/line tester
    screwdriver/tape measurer/etc
    usb hdd
    assortment of cd's
not a requirement but if it fits a vaio sized laptop i may use that feature..

i'm sure i'm missing some odds and ends but you get the point.

    anyone have any suggestions?

I just bought a toolbag from my local Lowes. If I had to carry CDs, then I'd use my ol' CD book.

I remember a thread in the main forum about some oters who bought Jack Bauer's bag for their IT jobs.

Fuckers even discussed what tools they need just in case they need to disable a nuke.

it depends on what you'll be working on...

you'll ultimately determine what you'll need as you do work obviousy... will you be working with fiber? older compaq/hp machines? get a good hex/torx key set. you'll never know when you need it.

i don't see wrist strap in your list either.

nowadays servers come with tools on the back or are easy to access with simple philips.

a laptop with a good usb to db9 is more useful. you'll never know when you need to connect to the console of a switch or headless server, etc. a crossover cable has helped me a lot as well.

tools for pc's and laptops? i have no idea. a hammer maybe.

I think he's referring to the fact that vaio's come in sizes 9-17" and that you didn't bother to include a model.

i realize this. just peeved homeboy couldn't ask "what size is the notebook", instead choosing the route of ridicule.

and to answer...i'd guess the one i have is around 11" screen size. on the compact end of the spectrum.
