Will finally be getting my new macbook tomorrow and long story short, i wont have them both (current laptop and the macbook) at the same time, so i need to put all my shit in my external harddrive tonight to transfer to my macboook tomorrow.

i've heard somewhere that sometimes it might not be compatible with macs if it has been used by a PC already so if anyone has info/experience with this i would highly appreciate it

    simple breakdown
FAT32 - Windows / OSX both read and write, 4gig file size limit
NTFS - Windows read and write / OSX read only, no file size limit
HFS - Windows no read or write / OSX read and write, no file size limit

so in other words, unless the file is over 4gb, it will be read by my mac

Install Paragon, it's a patch that allows your mac to read/write to an NTFS drive. I've been using it for the last year without issue.

it would probably be easier, though a little slower, to do it over a network.

why not just put both on the same network, share folders on the PC, then on the mac:
    go to finder
hit COMMAND - K or Go --> connect to server
type smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where the x = the PC's ip address)
    hit enter

then browse the PC's shared folders.

He said he wouldn't have access to both computers at once.

Just copy everything to the external hard drive, copy it all to the Mac, then reformat the hard drive into Mac HFS+ after you've gotten everything off of it.

    ah, missed the first part.

i thought it would be easier than pulling a hard drive out, putting it in an enclosure, and then worrying about whether it would be readable.
