it looks like a normal revolver, except one key feature ive noticed. the cylinder part where you insert the bullets does not extend out when you insert bullets, there is a small opening (which opens/closes via small door like opening)on the side that gives you access to put the bullets in. you have to insert one bullet and then manully turn the wheel and then insert another bullet.

not sure if this is unique to one brand of gun, but maybe

It's a single action revolver, which is an older design. You have to pull the hammer back each time you want to fire a round. Ever watch an old western and the hero holds the gun with one hand and "fans" the hammer with the other for rapid fire? That's what we're talking about here.

Don't know if there is a name for that type of revolver or not. But the part you are referring to is called a side-swinging loading gate.

Most of the new SA pistols are that way as well. Colt replicas and Ruger Blackhawk/Vaqueros use the same feature. It's impossible to tell what you have without pics and any markings from the gun.

Redhawk is their DA revolver, chamber swings out. That's a Freedom Arms revolver.
