I'm looking at this 97 z28 for sale at 7.5k. I took it for a test drive but I didn't have a chance to do some "evasive manuvers". Will I notice the dreaded american handling compared to my e30? (I hear e30's have great handling ... but I haven't driven any other car too extensively, so I can't compare).

What should I expect from the z28 compared to the e30 that I have right now ... apart from the acceleration.

Speaking of which, how does the C5 handle compared to comparable european sports cars? I mean, if you're looking for an American thing that can handle corners, do you necessarily need a Z06/Viper to do the job?

Yes, newer F-bodies handle pretty well. The C5 handles amazingly.

This thread answers the Camaro question, BTW :)

One thing that I've wondered is how far American cars have progressed since the muscle cars of 60s and 70s. Given that so much money is being put into restorations of those cars, did they handle well, or do the owners just not care about how the car feels outside of... raw power.

C5's are rediculous! I've seen some slightly modded ones tear up auto-x. I mean, even the rediculously modded M3's couldn't even touch em. The C5's came in 1 and 2.. while the other imports were behind, including the mini's and miatas.

z28 will typically pull .84 to .86 g's on the skidpad, the SS's .88 to .90, and if you put some 17s on them and wider rubber which is what you really need for a car of that mass you'd be amazed at how much better they handle. Your talking a significant increase just from tire/wheel combo changes.

How does a Mustang GT compare handling wise to a Camaro roughly? I'll be getting either of those two at some point. Which ever I find first that grabs me ;)
