Going varmint hunting there in a few weeks and figure I should get some camo that won't make me look like an oak tree in the middle of the desert. I was eyeballing the Seclusion 3D Open Country line of camo. I've never been to New Mexico; does this suit the environment out there or is there something better?

I'm from west TX (near El Paso), so its kinda similar to eastern New Mexico. I'd go for something with light brown/sand colored patterns. I'd also avoid darker colors, from what I've heard it hasn't rained much out there lately so alot of the vegetation is pretty dry.

Are you gonna be hunting at night or during the day?

Mostly daytime. The way I understand it, you either have to own land, or haver permission from a landowner to hunt out there at night.

    Here's the S3D OC pattern:

I haven't been to the eastern part of the state in many moons. IIRC it's not as brown as the western part, but still not what I'd call lush.

What town are you going to be near?

Yeah, if I remember correctly, that area is flat and brown, and most of the vegetation is brush. And most of the trees you'll see are dark green evergreens.

    Anything that moves. :mamoru:

But, from what I understand from my father (who's currently working out there), there's jack-rabbits and cotton tales everywhere. He hasn't had a chance to get a coyote yet, but he says they're everywhere out there as well. My goal is to call in a coyote, and blast it. I've never called them before, but I figure I can get some help from my dad (who's called in boat loads of them all over the country). I'd like to atleast learn how to do that.

I looked into that stuff, but they (Cabelas) didn't seem to offer anything for really hot weather in that pattern. I really wanted the Cabelas Super Mesh material because it seems like the coolest thing to wear out there. So, I settled on the S3D-OC in the Super Mesh.

I did, however, buy some Camo Form gun wrap in the Mossy Oak Brush to cover my shiney guns I'll be taking. I think it's a pretty close match:

put on jeans and a pocket tee. Stand on the tank batteries to do your calling. You will look like a pumper. (the guy that is always on the tank batteries)

Only time I've bagged a few coyotes is very early in the morning and right after the sun goes down. I'd try and do some night calling and using a spotlight if you get the chance.
