Now that I have a good 4000 or so actuations on my 30D, I can say that half of the times I have taken my memory card out of the camera...........some or all of the pictures are corrupt. I have posted about this a few times, but since it hasn't happened the last 4-5 times I haven't done anything about it. I have been formatting the card via Windows after each use, and then I format with the camera. I took 500 pictures this past Saturday, and 515 this past Sunday..........didn't have one corrupted file.

Today, I take the 100-400 out to take some pictures (since its the last day I can use it)......and I shoot about 50 pictures. The first 20 are corrupt. :greddy:

Here is the weird part...........I can see the pictures FINE when scrolling with the camera, but can't get any program to view it on my computer. Also when I am trying to DL the pictures, they prompt a windows error window about them being corrupt.

Anyone have experience with this enough to rule out the camera, and point to the CF card? :hsd:

i would think it would be the CF card.

i've gone through at least 5 or 6 CF cards with my old P&S (Canon A95), and have at least 6000 shots on it, and have never had a single corrupted image.

    :dunno:

have you tried any other CF cards?

    process of elimination.

    Change the easiest things first.

Do you use a card reader? What about importing the pics right from the camera? Does that work?

I'd keep screwing around with different tests till you can repeat the error on purpose.

    .

and if you think it's the card, go pick up a 128meg or some other really small card for like $15 and see if it still does it

While not the exact problem as you're experiencing, I had some issues with our brand new 30D not recording pics to the flash card. I would sometimes get error messages. It turned out to be a bent pin in the camera. Take a flashlight and check to see if all your pins are straight.

FWIW I took the ~50 or so pics last night........the first 20-25 were corrupt, but the last 25 or so were fine.......and I never removed the CF card.

have you tried another computer? find a friend with a mac and see if that machine can view it.

We had similar situations happen at work where our windows machines said the files were corrupt but after saving them to my laptop, I found out that the files were just named wrong (.jpp instead of .jpg). After renaming them, they were fine.

Went about bought another card today from Costco. Took 5 pics real quick to test out this 17-35L....threw the card in the reader.......3/5 corrupt. :o So I plugged the camera into the USB port directly and DL'ed the pics.......same thing.

Safe to say its a camera issue?

before you go and assume it is the camera, try a different card reader. that way you can do a process of elimination and then come to a conclusion on who the culprit is.

Have you tried to just plug the camera directly into the computer?

Ok. so you've eliminated the card as the source of the error.

Your two remaining variables are the camera and the card reader.

Reformat the card, then plug the camera in directly. Download the pics onto your HD.

Try to open them. If they all work, unplug your camera, pull out the card, plug it into the reader, and download them again, to a different folder.

    Try to open them.

This test will isolate the two methods of downloading.

You've established that they remain corrupt after showing up corrupt in the card reader. What you've yet to establish is whether or not they were corrupt before getting to the card reader...

Yeah all I have ever owned with NO problems at all.. PNY I have heard nothing but bad things about until now.

Friend had a card reader that fried 2 2gb cards on him... could have been that. 2 of the connector inside touched and continued to fry his cards.

They do have tech. I sent them an email a week after the original post of this thread.......they wanted me to jump through flaming hoops before they would even do anything.

Hell......I bought them at Costco......I'll just take them back there and get some new ones from elsewhere. Actually BOTH Ultra II's came from Costco.

Exactly. I can poop on a cookie tray, stick these two cards in the turd, and they'll still take them back.

And FWIW I shot all day with one of the UltraII cards yesterday, and shot about 100 additional pics on the LNY card.

    LNY = everything normal
Ultra II = first 17 fucking pics GONE :o
