For those of you who take it to a shop, where do you generally go and how much do you pay for a mirror + sensor cleaning?

Searched, sorry, I see if you take it to an authorized service facility they do it for free. Closest one is three hours though :wtc:

I've had my sensor cleaned at Canon Irvine before, but only when i had brought my lenses in to be calibrated. Since i was doing that it took a couple days for them to get my gear back to me.

If i just wanted the sensor cleaned, can they do it while you wait? Or do you need to drop it off and get it later?

just do it yourself...it isn't hard to do. just don't press hard and you'll be fine. from my understanding, there is a protective cover over the actual sensor anyways (on most cameras)

There is a list on their website - the one I'm looking at does free service if the camera is under warranty.

In my hobby of astrophotography we take canon SLR's apart and remove the IR filter and the clear glass in front of the image sensor so I'm guessing if you don't press really hard you should be able to clean your sensor without damage. Not sure what you have, but my 40D has a manual cleaning mode which moves the mirrors out of the way to get good access to the sensor.

all you have to do is lightly move the swab across whatever your cleaning. it's ridiculously easy.
