I've got a Nikon CoolPix 4300, no additional lenses. I've had it for 2yrs and I want to upgrade but don't have the spare money at the moment to spend $1,000 or so on a new camera (even though it'll be used for work, I've gotta wait till this stupid client pays me, grr! slow payers!). Should I spend some $$ and purchase lenses/filters for this camera and just keep this one for a little while longer or should I wait and purchase a new camera in a month or two.

    Thats his answer to everything.

What are you going to be using it for? What do you want to do with it, is that 1000 including memory, tripod, bag, etc

Do you want a more advanced compact camera with higher resolution and features or to go into the SLR world?

I'm going to be using the camera for graphic design work (where I WILL be printing the final output, large size prints are likely) as well as straight photography ( *>8x10<* )

If you don't need a SLR but still want to have some manual controls something like a Canon PowerShot G6 might work. It's 7.1 MP which would give you quality images that can be printed at 8x10 or larger. It's around $615 at bhphotovideo.com, not sure if thats the cheapest though :dunno:
