    Common question yes.

But, i have noticed i consume most of my calories around dinner/after dinner. Just because its when i'm home and have time to eat alot, and its when the family has its meals, etc.

So i would maybe have 2000-2500 calories up to around 7pm, and than from 7pm-10pm get that up to around 4000.

Is that an extremely bad idea?

No necessarily such a bad idea, especially if you train at 3-7 pm.

I work out at 5PM, and have a shake on the way home and then a big dinner at about 7-8.

Carbs at night are not worse than during the day really. A lot of people talk about cortisol and stuff like that but it's pretty much nonsense.

For the majority of people, carbs should covary along with exercise (ie : training day = more carbs) and these cals should preferentially be close to training because of some issues (hourly energy balance, exercise-induced changes in the body and so on).
