calorie question

    my coworker thinks that if you eat cold food, your body has to work harder to digest it than if you ate hot food, because calories are a form of heat, so it's easier on your body if its already hot. so he thinks your body is working less to make heat if the food is already hot.
    i disagree, but thought i'd consult you guys. :wavey:

    i have read that drinking cold liquids will burn more calories than liquids at or near body temp because your body has to warm up/regulate the temp and that uses energy

    I also read that this doesn't burn many calories.

    correct... almost

    it's the energy needed to raise 1 gram (or 1 mL) of water 1 degree celsius

    It's going to me like 1/100th the calories you'd burn by sitting in a cold room all day.

    not to mention the calories you are measuring in your food are actually kilocalories or 1000 calories :o
