I have tried looking elsewhere, but found nothing useful. I wanna fuck around with some friends so I want to be able to call them up and have their CID box say something other than my info. Anyone know how to do this. I figure if I am using it for educational purposes, there is no harm, right?
    Thanx

The CID info is not sent by your phone. It's sent by the phone company. You would have to intercept the message between the phone company and CID box then change it and continue transmission. Most likely beyond your capabilities.

Just do an outgoing pretranslation before the calls go out the PRI.

You need to read "The Art of Deception" by Kevin Mitnick. He tells a story how his boss hated having to deal with Kevin over the phone and would not answer the phone when he saw it was from Kevin's home or cell phone numbers. So Kevin found a friend that manages a small PBX at a local company. Depending on the PBX gear, you can manipulate the PBX to have a particular internal phone extension send out for a particular phone number (of your choice). So Kevin would call up his friend and have the number configured. Then Kevin would do some phone tricks so he could call in from his cell phone and then route back out to his boss from this dedicated PBX phone. What was kind of funny was he would call in with the White House phone number or his bosses home phone number (boss would think it was his wife calling in).

This is about as far as the book goes from a technical how-to. Although if you have some intelligence and people connections, it could be done. And from the sounds of it, it would be relatively legal assuming you legally have access to the PBX and an unused extension to play with. One trick though, not all PBXs are created the same and many will probably not allow you to do this (probably because of this trick).

The thing is, my number comes off as private to begin with. His phone doesn't accept calls that are private, so I have to disable the function and have my number show up by force. And I really want to fuck with them.

All a PBX or Key system is is a computer with software.. Software that can be easily manipulated.

It won't be very simple for a novice, but someone who knows the key system and it's software can easily fool it to do many many cool stuff. :bigthumb:

Can be misconstrued with illegal activity, however, because it would be considered private property.

I don't know about you but I'd rather put my testicles through a grinder than try to program an M1. An IP PBX however, bring it on. :big grin:

:rofl: I never said it would be fun. ;)

Results could be fun.. but not the effort.

IP-based systems are a completely different story..
