    No, the Defense of Marriage Act says that states do not have to recognize same-sex marriages performed by other states and bars the federal government from recognizing them as well.

    If the federal government hadn't passed DOMA, half the states would have constitutional amendments defining marriage by now, and things would be way worse then they are.

    It's official, two cases are being brought before the California superem court against prop 8. Hope they accomplish their goal.
