AB 1471 Provisions: Assembly Bill 1471, named the Crime Gun Identification Act of 2007, requires that all new models of semiautomatic handguns sold in California after January 1, 2010 be equipped with a microscopic array of characters that identify the make, model and serial number of the pistol. The characters must be etched or imprinted onto the pistol’s internal working parts or interior surfaces and would be imprinted on each cartridge case when the handgun is fired. This new technology is called “microstamping”

FUCK YOU ARNOLD. I voted for you twice and now you fucked Californians out of our 2nd amendment rights. I once loved you, now I hope you die.

that was a media stunt. there are maybe 3 barret's owned by law enforcement departments for the whole state.

it was a brilliant media stunt, imo. But honestly, if you could get Glock to say "fuck off" to the bill, that pretty much kills it, imo.

It will be interesting to see what "every time" means to the DOJ.

Cause right now stamping it only readably ~54% of the time.

well, imagine this. you're a CA law enforcement agency. glock just told you they won't sell you stuff, but sig or H&K will. you'd just go to the next lowest bidder.

every manufacturer would have to call it quits for it to be effective, and we know that won't happen.

46% of impressions ranked as “unsatisfactory” (i.e., illegible) after only ten rounds.

I wonder what would happen if all the gun manufacturers just stopped selling new guns, and started selling "certified pre-owned" or used models (ie. "demo" guns that were fired 100 times at the factory) :hsugh:

Not true. It's an expensive move to swith a department to a new sidearm -- both in logistics, parts, and TRAINING.

It would be a devestating cost to california depts if Glock pulled the plug! Granted I'd like more companies to follow suite, but even if it was only Glock -- it'd be a big deal.

And then what does "every" time mean? Certainly it can't mean "EVERY".... And who's fault is if it doesn't? You can't hold the gun owner responsible, right??? I would definitely be pulling out my metal-files and after I was done with that, shoot a thousand rounds through it. Done.

    firing pin.

Now is this simply a requirement for firearms SOLD new? Meaning that replacing the firing pin or modifying it would not be illegal? It wouldn't be the first time a restriction was placed on a "new" product that didn't apply to modification after-the-fact.

    i guess.

and about the pin, based on what i said before you'd only need to shoot it 100-200 times for it to be close to 0% readable. that and a file would be done.

do these retards expect us not to shoot or something?

If I alter my mag to hold more than 10 rounds i'm a felon. I would not doubt that if you alterd your gun so it would not leave an imprint you would face similar consquences.

It's still worth a shot IMO. I would imagine that most firearm manufacturers were founded on similar ideals and beliefs that fall in line with the second amendment, maybe they will remember that if enough people remind them.

If I put 13 rounds of 9mm in a 10 round 40sw mag the DOJ considers that the same thing as manufacturing a hi-cap mag
