Specifically strong coffee (no sugar and very light half/half)

I know that it's not going to hurt my diet at all, but I'm curious as to whether the 2-3 8oz cups of coffee I drink per day are going to have any negative affect on my weight training. I get enough rest and proper nutrition to where I don't need the coffee to "wake up," but good coffee is one of my vices and I particularly enjoy drinking it.

Obviously I don't drink it before training (I lift at around 9 or 10 AM 4 days per week and do HIIT 2-3 times per week) but I want to know if it's going to negatively effect me to the point where I should stop drinking it entirely.

    Any help is appreciated.

I used to pound 2 cups of coffee everyday before lifting until just recently because I can't fucking get to sleep and stay asleep at night, so I cut it out to see what the deal is.

why do you think it would have any negative effect at all?

its great for working out since you have more energy with which to lift

Because when I drink coffee I get very dehydrated very quickly and I sweat a lot because of hyperthyroidism as it stands. I would rather be properly hydrated than have a quick caffeine buzz.

You should always be drinking water...and keeping yourself hydrated. Who cares if you sweat a lot anyways, you're going to the gym.

I always take either caffiene or some other stimulant before lifting. I also drink enough water during the day and while lifting that a bit of caffiene isn't going to dehydrate me.

  10. Coffee is fine for you, if you like it, drink it. Maybe have some before lifting, it will give you some kick.

Offtopic but I just figured out why I always think the gym is "so fucking hot"...caffeine.

Same. I don't enjoy lifting without a stim. I drink a ton of water at the gym though too, since it's free and is really good for tap water. :o

I used to hate the stuff because it gave me debilitating pumps. However, if I don't have a caffeine buzz when I go in, I have more energy and do fine.

400mg when I wake up and 150-200mg before I workout. Works like a fucking charm.

I usually have half a diet soda on my way to the gym and the other half on my way home.

that's a pretty unsubstantial amount of caffiene, but i think just the flavor of something other than water seems to wake me up and make me feel good, so that's when I choose to drink that crap.

You'd be better off drinking the coffee before lifting and not in the morning IMO, this way you're not relying on it to wake up.

Like others said, I usually need some type of stimulant and usually drink 2 cups before lifting. Has no adverse effects, just don't overload or you'll feel like shit and get all dizzy halfway through your workout.

I wasn't aware that it was considered normal to use caffeine/stimulants for so many people prior to lifting

What do you guys think about 5 hour energy/similar products? Same type of deal? I tried one of the 5 hour energy shots today and it actually worked extremely well, almost as well as advertised, and I didn't get the crash I get after I drink a lot of caffeine either. Is it safe to use this and lift?

Fair enough, maybe it's just a placebo effect in action and I'm already dehydrated.

I'm already on a low dosage of Vyvanse (30mg), which is a stimulant as well...but that alone only gets my baseline energy up

oh yeah fuck coffee cause it makes me take craps immediately so it would be bad news if I drank it before a workout.
