I'll be going to Disneyland with my family at the very beginning of December. I know I cannot carry inside the park, but what about the trip over, and at the hotel room?

I know the AZ side will be fine, but what are the rules for carrying a weapon in a car in CA? Is it legal to bring it into the hotel?

I'd check packing.org, but it's blocked here at work :wtc:

I remember the rules differently, unloaded and in a locked container yes but it doesnt have to be a DOJ approved case. The trunk counts as a locked container (glove box doesnt) and I've heard of people keeping it in a briefcase next to them with the combination just one number off.

Jesus. So I can't even have it IN the car? What if I need to defend myself/my family?

This should clear it up a bit I hope, although they dont define unloaded.

ugh. I'm going to have to pull over and unload and lock my weapons. How horribly stupid. I hate that damn state.

What's the penalty for having a loaded weapon in the car?

I cant say for sure, most likely they would classify it as illegal concealed carry and since the weapon is loaded its the full penalty which I think is up to a $1000 fine and up to a year in county jail.

Our gun laws, smog requirements, politicians and traffic all suck something awful. Other than that it isnt all that bad.

I'm wondering if I should even bother bringing any weapons. I'd only get to have them loaded for the trip until we hit CA, then they'd have to sit around in the hotel room.

Honestly I probably wouldn't if I was you, I trust the general public a lot more than hotel staff. Factor in trying to deal with all the laws regarding transporting and carrying them and it seems like a hell of a hassle for something you have to keep unloaded and locked up.

iirc, if you are caught with a concealed handgun, that is registered to you, for the first time it's a misdemeanor. the second escalates to a felony. if the handgun is not registered to you or if you are prohibited to own or possess a firearm, it's a felony.

oh, and to legally transport a handgun (this will also apply to registered assault weapons) it must be unloaded and stored in a locked container. a glove compartment (or any other compartment in the passenger cabin) does not count. a trunk counts as a locked container, but what about when you open the trunk? just keep the handgun in separate locked container (a backpack with a lock will suffice since the law does not define what qualifies as a locked container.) magazines do not have to unloaded, they just cannot be attached to the firearm. oh, and this transporting a handgun (or assault weapon) is legal when it is transported from home to a specific, legal location (i.e. shooting range, hunting trip, etc.) that means you can't just have a handgun in the car at all times just because.

best thing to do is to read the firearm laws document available on the cadoj website.

I'm worried about leaving it int he hotel room too. I have no idea how you CA guys do it. I would hate to have all these laws about how I can defend myself.

Unfortunately, my daughters control my mother and they want to go to Disneyland, so my mother is forcing everyone to go and "enjoy themselves". Personally, I'd rather perform surgery on myself than go to disneyland again, but I'm married and I like sleeping in a bed. :hs:

I always heard its a misdemeanor the first time only if the gun isnt loaded. I dont really feel like scouring all of section 12020 and up of the penal code to make sure though.

Get some Fox Labs OC and take that with you. You should be able to take that into Disneyland too, it's better than nothing.

So long as its only the 2 oz one it should be fine. Just be careful because iirc they added a bit about assault with a caustic chemical to the PC that pepper spray falls under.

What the hell is with CA being all paranoid with everything causing birth defects? Be careful, that elmers glue has been known to cause retardation in men from 25-28.

So if Im using superglue, right when I cross the CA state line, I instanly have a birth defect that traveled back in time?

I'm suprised the don't require a permit for it like MA does.

It's a shame the ultra liberal urban areas have fucked the entire state when it comes to gun laws.

I just remembered that my dad always had a 38spl under his carseat when we took a trip anywhere. Maybe that's not a bad idea.

Edit: This was in CA btw.
