This afternoon the Assembly voted to pass Assembly Bill 2062 by a vote of 41-31.

Authored by State Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), AB2062 would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor” in the Department of Justice’s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require vendors to keep a record of the transaction including the ammunition buyer’s name, driver’s license, the quantity, caliber, type of ammunition purchased, and right thumbprint, which would be submitted to the Department of Justice. All ammunition sales in the state of California would be subject to a $3 per transaction tax. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited. Any violator of AB2062 would be subject to civil fines. AB2062 was amended to remove the requirement that law-abiding gun owners obtain a permit to purchase handgun ammunition.

On Wednesday, May 28, the Assembly voted 41-30 to pass Assembly Bill 2235. The bill now heads to the Senate for its consideration.

AB2235 would prohibit the sale of handguns other than "owner-authorized (or “smart”) handguns" -- that is, handguns with a permanent, programmable biometric feature that renders the firearm useless unless activated by the authorized user. No proven, viable handgun of this type has ever been developed.

Introduced by Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier (D-11), AB2235 would require the Attorney General to report to the Governor and Legislature on the availability of owner-authorized handguns; once the Attorney General finds that these guns are available, only “owner-authorized” handguns could be approved for sale in California.

Looks like reloading is once again becoming more cost efficient in this state.

Why ban smart guns? That seems more like a benefit to gun owners incase they get stolen and used in a crime, it wouldn't work for the perp? :hsugh:

It was to ban anything other than "smart guns", IE normal guns. Holy shit California sucks, I can't even begin to think of a decent response to this.

like Stixlars said, it's a ban on anything but smartguns.

And the problem is, none of those have yet worked. At all. Same as "microstamping."

But, since htis amounts to a total ban, everyone in the state with half a brain should and probably will be fighting this tooth-and-nail.

The ammo thing, well, I'm hoping that everyone fights that too.

I know, I'm making a few calls to the Governor's office as soon as it's mentioned on the hotline. And writing some letters to everyone I can think of who has any influence on it at all.

The rest of us if we are not careful.

  19. It's the truth. The majority of Californians are idiots, as is evidenced by the idiots they elect. Life isn't fair. If I found myself in California, I would devote the majority of my time to finding a way out.

The fact is that while not everyone agrees with the madness that goes on in Cali, the realistic odds of it changing any time soon are basically zero. That being said, you can either live with the arbitrary laws passed for light and airy reasons, or leave.

atleast kansas's gov has learned that it doesn't pay to be anti-gun, currently... when she shot down ccw, her veto was overturned... now a year later she passed the bill for sbr, fa, and cans.

I don't think the smart gun bill would hold up in court at least.
