Begun training with the university weightlifting team last friday, and am intending on competing eventually when my coach believes I am ready.

Will be competing in 77kg weight category eventually. (which means i have to keep cutting  )

    Power Clean: 100kg (20/12/06)
    Power Snatch: 70kg (6/12/06)

    Back Squat: 140kg (4/4/07)
    Front Squat: 120kg (20/4/07)

    SHORT TERM GOALS:

Cool. I don't usually read logs, but it's good to see more people involved in weightlifting. Having a consistent group to lift with is possibly the best thing ever, too. Good luck.

weighed myself yesterday and was approximately 79kg (old scales!)

I still have a bit of stubborn fat around my midsection, but i am the leanest i have been since i started lifting ~3years ago, which is nice (not your standard of lean but not bad for me :o )

    Mon 23/10 - Session 2

Continuing with introduction to techniques mostly, still not going heavy on purpose, i feel like i could do a whole heap more weight but coach insists we work on the basics (and i agree) before going heavy

Both C&J+Snatch are 'full' lifts, both going down into the full A2G squat position even when not necessary, and again trying to be as fast as possible.

    Snatch 5x4 60kg
    C&J 5x3 70kg
    Front Squats 5x3 90kg
    Snatch pulls 5x3 80kg
    + Misc. Ab work

I need to focus more on my setup, feel the weight in my toes a little more as opposed to sitting 'back' on my heels - must get over the bar a touch more so i can use my legs to power the weight up and create momentum in the right direction

    Wed 25/10 - Session 3

Still lightish weight - to work on form

Power Snatch 5x3 up to 60kg
Power Clean 5x3 up to 75kg *started to feel elbow pain
Power Clean Up once, then 3 reps push press (5x3) up to 75kg *elbows killing me by this point
Back Squats 5x3x100kg *with elbows out of the picture, these felt REALLY strong, coach didnt want to up the weight on this one, have a heavy session on friday...:bigthumb:
    Good Mornings 4x6 70kg

Tough times this session - my elbows are clearly not used to this amount of high intensity speed/power work, and were feeling considerable pain during and between lifts.. with the bar positioned on my shoulders and elbows out in front ready to push press/jerk the bar, my elbows are taking considerable strain so hopefully this eases off as they adapt to the load :x:

Coach has also mentioned that there is a competition as early as December 9 that he would like to enter me into :noes: :noes:

I am excited about this sport, its extremely rewarding when you do a lift and it feels so easy because the technique was spot on. I keep wanting to work on my form 24/7 but dont want to overtrain :noes:

ok was just wondering because if youre going to be in the 77's and are still kinda chubby youre going to get tooled if you were any taller. its a fun ass sport. the only downside is they dont really look at getting jacked a good thing unless youre an openweight.

im not sure i follow you but i've only been doing this for 2 weeks now, so chances are i'm going to get 'tooled' anyway right? :hs:

I'm seriously enjoying the training moreso than any other thing i have done (even hockey which i have played for 10+ years). The rest of the team are extremely cool so its just a really good vibe at the gym..

Side note - I have dropped another belt notch over the past 2 weeks, which makes a total of 4 notches in 5 weeks :bigthumb: more and more visible muscle in my midsection and on my back (according to the gf)

I wasnt trying to be discouraging at all. Anybody with the stones to compete is cool with me, its good that youre out there. But yeah you're going to get tooled  Relative strength is really high with OL'ers. It's also funny because in the weight class youre in and probably even a couple higher the lifters dont look jacked or anything and some you cant even tell lift in clothes but theyll do some nasty shit on the platform.

The last comp i went to watch, the 77kg class had a tiny asian guy who probably was 65kg or so, and he totalled 140kg, so i guess it really depends on what level i'm going to be competing at :o

I dont have any far out ideas that i am going to win gold at the olympics or anything, but im doing this because it is a completely challenging sport that i get extremely excited about.

However, my training partners are pretty jacked :dunno:

apparently in this state, there are very few 77kg class lifters, which is why the coach suggested i cut down to that class as opposed to the highly populated and competitive 86kg class

I'll be sure to update with how much i get tooled after the comp :o :hs:

Weighed in at 76.8kg today, which is perfect, still gives me enough weight to train with, and then i can ditch some more closer to competition date if necessary.. now i just sit on maintenance

    Fri 27/10 - Session 4

Still having some issues with my elbows and left shoulder, so took it fairly easy coming into my 2 days off so i could recover.

Supposed to be heavy day, but taking it fairly easy

Snatch - 6x2 up to 65kg *PR (could do more but see above)*
C&J - 6x2 up to 80kg (shoulder started to give me grief at this point)
Front Squats - 3x3 up to 90kg when my elbows started to fail :hs:
Swapped to Back Squats to finish up - 3x2 up to 110kg

We are going to do some extra work to strengthen my elbows and some more shoulder injury prevention stuff on my off days when i train on my own + do cardio

I'm following gogz suggestion to get more explosive and actually not going even above 60kg for either lifts.:hs:

Are you doing any supplemental hypertrophy work at all?

Yeah the coach is basically holding back on purpose to work on that, which is fine by me.. no rush

The plan is to let my body get used to the 3 day schedule, and then once i can handle that without the shoulder/elbow problems, then add in a fourth session for supp hypertrophy work
