So I decided clean and jerks today at the gym to see what all the fuss is over, and I liked them :wiggle: I started light, concentrating on the form described in exrx and moved up I could barely get it up properly. On my last set (rep rather) I got a kink in my neck just as I stepped back and called it quits. I can feel a little stiffness now and it there's a little pain when I turned my head parallel with my shoulders. Is this a common injury? I'll probably go drop by a chiropractic place that just opened by my house tomorrow if it doesn't feel better.

did you feel the kink on the clean part or the jerk part?

Also, I highly doubt you need a chiropractor as I have no idea how you could have messed up you spine. You probably tweaked a muscle as the traps/upper back are insturmental in the clean movement and to a lesser extent on the jerk movement.

clean and jerk is the best shoulder lift you can possibly do in my opinion

clean=traps, rhomboids, rear delt with biceps working indirectly too

Had the same problem on Saturday while doing chest-supported rows. I wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't lessen after 3-4 days. I've done it a few times, always goes away within a week or so.

Whew, it was on the clean portion as soon as I got my arms straight up. I'll take the day off tomorrow. My wrists were killing by the end, does that normally happen or is it bad form if it does?
