    Hello!

I've been travelling around for awhile and taking photos, and I thought I'd get a little critique from the very well respected offtopic members! No really, I like you guys and I read the forum as often as I can (read: remember it exists).

The following photos are from Israel, Jordan, Czech Republic, and Oman, from the past 10 weeks of traveling....

1-4 are in Oman (I'll be here + dubai for the next 3 months.. time to take some more :)).
    5-10 are in Czech Republic.
    11 is in Petra, Jordan.
    12-21 are in Israel.

Please be brutally honest with anything, give me feedback on better-this, worse-that, and especially how to better edit... I'm using photoshop cs3 but I suck at it. especially with skies - the sky here in the Gulf is very hazy with all the desert.. how do I make it BLUE? :)

Nikon D70 w/ 50mm f/1.8D, and 20mm f/2.8D. mostly just the 50. Left my zooms at home, gave up on that a long time ago...

    critique away! thanks

    love the first one.

    second one has great color.

last one is very nice also. I normally dislike sephia tones, but that pic works well with that adjustment.

    Good job!

wow i'm really impressed with some of your work. the temple shot is really exceptional...and it's great to see you only used two primes. shows that using an outdated camera and two prime lenses doesn't make you any less of a photographer.

Yeah, I also dislike sepias, but I was playing around and that just seemed "right" somehow. thanks!

not my camera :) - but why? lens? also, something that sometimes bothers me about cigarettes in many of my photos is that they tend to be too "white" - like they're a blown out highlight. or is that just something only I am noticing?

    hehe... I'll consider it!

hey! the d70 is only a few years old and at 40,000 clicks, still going very strong :)

    no, that's at f/1.8 with my 50mm. 1/500th and 1/400th exposure. Her's is 2.8 :)

I think so? I don't remember it from Indiana Jones but I believe Petra was the site they filmed it at. The day I went there was barely anyone there! I highly recommend it as an interesting touristy place. that's all carved into a giant wall!

Love the photos. The compositions feel really solid to me.

Also, can you tell me whats going on in this picture?

Those guys are (hired) guards. I was in a sort-of touristy group, going around the country. When we would travel anywhere, we always had to have these guards with us. They were really cool people, but the guns... always with the guns.. made for some good photos :)

You post processed some of those key colors (girls nails, redness of the backpack) right?

sometimes - rarely - I'll do selective coloring, but I'm really bad at it. Simple saturation, though, is a quick and dirty way of having a lot of the colors come out, but beyond that I'm never that good. Especially with dull skies -- help!

Here are the originals of the two that (I think) you mentioned... (resized)

Find the middle ground, the PPed ones look too saturated.
