I searched out over 130 different cars and then narrowed it down to only C - Class and E - Class from 1993 - 1997,

I have read countless reviews, test driven many, and I think for her getting back and forth to college a C220 or C280 or 300E or E 320's,

they are safe, reliable, and get much better milage then my mountineer 5.0 V8 or explorer 4.0 V6, so is there any current owners of these few models in the years mentioned that have any problems that I have not found out about that I should be warry of, or unmentioned defects?

just want any last thoughts before I spend the money

You might want to come over to bnzsport.com more mb fanatics their.

I wouldn't buy and older MB if it were my daily driver. I'd look the later production W210 and the W202 Class C230k/C280 :)

every test and review I have read that they have faired great espically the C220s and C280s

my lil sister, who is the recipent of this car wants the E class, and I feel the C classes are just fine,

if you can find a used s70 with less than 75,000 on it I am open to more ideas

    Unless it's a C32 AMG, I'm not paying attention.

I got me a 95 S420 with 127K -{{{{for 13K}}}}} from a sweet old lady that never went full throttle on the V8 and the woofers are still crisp. That is all.

A Benz to go to college?......I predict you will be back in 9 months complaining about door dings, a stolen stereo, and the smell of beer in your leather.

Where are you going to school? If its anywhere near B-more (UMCP? UMBC? Loyola?), I'd look for something a little less prone to break-ins and expensive parts.

the car is for my little sister to go to UMBC, and she will live at home, she did one semester at ST Johns and she is not a partier, I offer her beer and wine all the time and she hates it, plus the upper limit on this expense is set at 12,000 or so, nothing more, I plan on looking at a bunch of nice ones that are in the 7,000 range, and I am more worried about her being really safe and getting decent MPG, and my family has a long history with MB and we have always loved them, so a C 220/ C 280 is going to be perfect

Not a bad car I hope it's in good condition for your sake.

Old MB's can turn into quite money pit if they weren't maintained properly :hs:

300Es are beautiful cars. maintain it and pay attention to it and it will serve you two or three lifetimes of other cars. for the 300E (its the W124 chassis just so you know if you need to know in the future) watch out for the air conditioning and the heating. the joke that goes around is that Stuttgart hung an air conditioning unit in the air and build the w124 around it. its a bitch to get at so expensive to service.

W210's (next generation of E-class from the W124) are good and pretty cool but they weren't built to the same dedication and overengineering the W124's are famous for. W202's (previous C-class generation you were looking at) are also very cool and suited more for the younger crowd. they can be made to looks VERY VERY nice and lots of european options can easily be wired up into them. probably one of the easiest MB's to mod. C220's though... don't bother with them. C280's are strong but lately friends of mine who own them have had a transmission mishap with them around the same time as everyone else.
