I sold a lot of stuff and bought some things from CL, but never camera related. How do you guys do with CL?

I explored possibly getting a d80 or 40d off of CL before purchasing a new d90, but I figured saving a few hundred bucks wasn't worth it to me. I wanted to get it new.

However, I'd maybe get a lens off of CL if it was a good deal. Just noticed someone saying the 50/1.8D for nikon for $90. Not bad considering I paid $135 shipped off of B&H.

    Thoughts?

I bought a brand new 1Ds mk II, 100-400 lens and some other kit zoom plus a tripod and case all for $3000.00 off of CL. Turned around and sold most of it for $3500.00 that evening.

I've also bought two or three other lenses and some other odds and ends from different people that turned out to be winners. I've never been burned yet.

do you sell primarily to profit from them?

Yep. I didn't need another 1Ds or the other lenses that came with it. The other stuff I bought I purchased to use.

I've bought a lens off craigslist before. Just meet in some public place and test the equipment before purchasing it :dunno:

If you buy a lens, bring your camera and test it on your own setup.

I bought a 80-200 2.8 (2 ring) off of CL for $425. it had no case, and the lens hood was all scratched up, but it works well. no complaints about IQ. :o

craigslist has been very good to me.

    I have purchased a $300 40d and flipped it for $675
Purchased a 24-70G for 1300 and they go for 1700 used
Purchased a 400 2.8 for 1000 and flipped it for $2500 in lenses
Nikon batteries for 5 a piece
Alienbee foldable Large softbox for 40 bucks
Manfrotto $89 lightstands for 10 bucks a piece
    2 Alienbee b1600s for $225
Manfrotto 3021Bpro tripod with 488rc2 head for $75
Canon 5d with grip for $900, a year ago

So yeah some GREAT deals can be had from CL. just make sure to thoroughly inspect, and get bill of sale made out, just in case shit was stolen.
