I have decided that I wan't to upgrade my car stereo and like the stickys said have looked at a head unit first. This is going in my ford escape(yeah I know, but I am using this for the next 4 years of college). I have looked at the brands recommended in the stickies and have found my price range to be from 300-375. I have decided between three I would consider so far. I would just like your input on which of these are the best and if there are any others in this price range worth considering.

(so far my favorite, like the compatability with the ipod.)

In the future I am going to add speakers and an amp and sub so also consider what would be most compatible.

Any head unit I get needs to be ipod compatible.

Is there any reason why? from what I see this would make the two that same thing except the one I selected directly hooks up.

The lack of a cd player turns me off -- right off the bat. Secondly, the looks simply don't do it for me.

For the same cash, I'd rather go with a more traditional Alpine and the iPod integration.

In the end, go with what you like. The Alpines are reliable and sound great.

hmm, I did not notice that there was no cd player, although I do not use it much, having one would probably come in handy at some point. Also, I can't figure out if this unit needs a special cable to hook up the ipod. It says usb, but I dont know if it is the same usb cord as everything else.

I personally hate the Pioneer, the stupid multi-pivot button or whatever it is that controls all the functions... sucks.

I'd take the eclipse personally, or the 9885 you listed.

Not sure if you've purchased yet or not, but just a heads up. Crutchfield is giving you the iPod cable for free when you buy the Alpine 9885.

Best Buy also gives the iPod cable free with the 9885 for now, and you'll get the free install on the deck. Only need to pay for parts and it's $15 to install the iPod cable. I'm not totally sure, but doesn't the IDA-X001 include the iPod cable? It's a pretty bad ass radio though.

Pioneer would be easiest to configure. Built in front, rear, sub crossovers, etc.

Alpine would be best to use the iPod with.

Eclipse, I don't know shit about.
