So it's my first time buying a car, the one I had was given to me, so I have a few questions because the car has been through a lot I'm guessing. Heres the ad:

haha so there you have it, he originally wanted $6k but we worked out a deal, $5k and he'd throw in the tires to pass saftey, and heres what he said about the rest:

So my question is, how much will wax, parking break cable, and a windshield run me. Also, does it look like anything else will need to be replaced in the near future? Also, he said he wants to sell the car "as is" so I'd need to get the safety done, how much does that run me? Absolutely any info would be appreciated cause like I said, its my first car purchase.

    Thanks :wavey:

Now i'm thinking between this 99' Mazda Protege and a 94' BMW 325i but i think that the BMWs out of question due to gas alone

I get 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway in my '94 325is, but it's terribly unreliable. Speaking of unreliable, the other two cars you listed also fit the bill....I've only heard of a couple cases of jettas being somewhat reliable and by the sound of it (judging on what the previous owner has had to replace) it doesn't sound like this one is going to be very reliable....I've had two friends with protoges and while they tend to be more reliable than a jetta, a lot of things still go wrong on them...

i think youre getting a good deal, considering the t-chain and water pump is done. you dont need to wax it, and you should only be throwing maybe 1k at most in it.

Don't buy a Jetta, don't buy a protege, don't buy a '94 beamer. I would suggest a decent milage civic, but i doubt you could get one for that cheap, or a grand prix that would be as recent as possible - the new body style if you can grab one.

99 was a good year for Mazda. You should be fine with the Protege, though if you can get your hands on a Millennia instead, that would be much nicer.

well the reason i wanted the protege over a civic/accord is cause every other ricer in the world has one, theyre far too common and relativly speaking the protege isn't

While we're at it, let's make a Canadian Muscle thread for all those Chevys and Fords that are built in Windsor, ON.

He's got all maintenance records? Flip through them and look for weird/major repairs, and if nothing bothers you, jump on it.
