I've always wanted to get into photography as sort of a weekend hobby. Someone I know is selling a used XT, body only, for ~$400. He says it was bought October 2006 and hasn't taken more than 500 shots. Is this a good deal?

And if I do get it, what lens would you recommend to someone just starting out, for general photography?

pretty good price I'd probably go for the tamron 17-50 2.8 to start out...or if you dont have that much to spend on a lens just buy a used kit lens off someone for $50 its not a great lens but its ok to learn on

2nd on the tammy. i swore up and down that i would never go back to third party glass after experiencing sigma. however the little 17-50 changed my mind. I was unwilling to drop the coin on the nikon 17-55 so i picked up the tamron and have been amazed by the quality of the lens, sharpness, and color.
