i know there are milions and millions of these.. but here we go again

i'm looking to recommend a camera for my girl friend.

affordable, durable, and i think a nice design will win me some points :naughty:

canon is the way to go??

edit: ps. and no, she doesnt know too much about photography. all she needs is a camera she can take on a trip to germany and not have it die on her while she's there

Ive wanted to check out that olympus for an upcoming trip im taking.

Ive always liked the canon sd series. The sd1100 is a decent camera and comes in different colors to get you extra brownie points. Ive used nikon ps and loved it, but the one I had was pretty huge, not sure what the nikon equivalent is to the canon sd1100. Ive been happy with both canon and nikon ps just stay away from the low end stuff. My dad has a nikon L6 i think and it sucks ass. Takes way too long to take a damn pic

I've always had the small canons. I currently have a sd750, which has resided in my gf's purse for the last year and a half, gone everywhere, and taken a lot of abuse. The sd1100IS is nice too, I bought one for my mom for Christmas and she loves it.

I like cannons too, I have owned a few sd series. I got an olympus 770 sw when they first came out and love it. I thrash that thing like crazy! I keep a float lanyard attached to it at all times. Ive taken it to the beach, lake, snow etc without any problems. you can run over it in the mud with a car, wash it off and it will be fine. i go kayaking, spear fishing, surfing, etc and it still works like the day i got it! here are a few pics ive taken with it

if you can wait, the Panasonic TS1 is also shock and waterproof and has HD video on it!

The new Olympus Tough 6000/8000 are here this month and they are alos shock/waterproof. Newer, better version of the 1030

Canon SD series, can't go wrong. Small, compact, takes awesome shots.
